Pirates' Quest: To Be the Best
Lefors I.S.D. is located on the eastern edge of the high plains in the geographic center of Gray County. The school district is approximately 140 square miles, and encompasses the town of Lefors and surrounding ranch land. The economy of the area is based on oil and gas production and ranching.
Lefors I.S.D. was formed in l924. At present, the school enrolls approximately 135 students in grades Kindergarten through l2. Elementary students in grades K-l2 attend school in a modern facility complete with centrally located library, computer lab, nurse's station and administrative offices. Junior High and High School students attend classes in the historic and well maintained original Lefors School building. A separate building houses the competition gym, the cafeteria, and classrooms for shop and music. |
Lefors High School students have available the basic core subjects of English, Mathematics, Science, and History. Electives are offered in the areas of Science, Fine Arts, Spanish, Shop, and Home Economics. Graduates are well prepared for work or additional study after graduation.
Lefors I.S.D. offers a wide range of extracurricular activities for student participation. Junior and Senior High sports include Volleyball, Football, Basketball, Tennis, Golf, and Track. Students can also choose to participate in various Academic U.I.L. competitions such as Choir. The school also sponsors an FHA Club.
The community of Lefors offers a comfortable small town environment. The population of the town is approximately 650 people. Major shopping is available in Pampa, a city of 20,000, located 12 miles from Lefors. Housing is available, and the town has two active Civic Clubs, the Lions Club and the Arts & Civic Club. Three churches, including the First Baptist Church, the Church of Christ, and the Methodist Church are available for worship.
